- Finding Your True Values

Values are virtues, principles, and beliefs that we cherish, aspire to, and are determined to embody. Values are the foundation to who we become.  Love of God, charity for mankind, kindness, virtue, loyalty, cheerfulness, integrity, sacrifice, patriotism, endurance, respect, knowledge, and work are a few examples of values.

We learned that George Washington’s values or mottos were “deeds not words” and “for God and my Country.”  We can see by looking at this life that these mottos were real to him and that they guided him in his decisions and actions in difficult times.   His values helped him to find his purpose through the course of life. It was his values that guided his day-to-day efforts and ultimately blessed the world.   His values influenced his personality traits, his purpose, his talents, his passions and his strengths.

Today, too many have compromised their values because they elected to put money, fame or personal indulgences first.  Like Washington, our values or principles should be our anchor and guiding force.

Values are core to us.  If we allow them, they help us to discover our purpose and to focus on what is most important.
